KIND to Your Skin: Seasonal Skin Care
Have you gotten your fill of pumpkin spice yet? Have you warmed your house with the aromas of clove, cinnamon and orange? Have you hung your wreath displaying the colorful hues? Have you thrown on that oversized sweater and fuzzy socks? Consider yourself in full-blown-fall mode. Well… almost. Changing your skin care routine with the seasons may not make your list of fall favorites, but we think it should.
We want to highlight some ways to care for your face and body when the weather dries up, winds pick up and temperatures drop. Making these small adjustments can help you maintain that gorgeous, natural glow and help you fall in love with your skin care routine.
Hello, Hydration
During the heat of the summer, most skin types aren’t in need of heavy-duty moisturizers. Humidity levels help maintain your skin’s natural hydration. Whether you ‘glisten’ or drip with sweat, a thick moisturizer isn’t necessary.
When humidity levels drop, your skin needs a little extra help. Moisturizers that are emollient-rich, while still remaining non-comedogenic are your best bet. Steer clear of synthesized ingredients, parabens and petroleum-based products. Be sure to check out our list of the Dirty Dozen to learn more!
It may surprise you to know that many fruits of the harvest are beneficial for your overall health as well as your skin. We recommend the following ingredients for all-natural moisturization:
- Sweet Almond Oil– similar to a baby’s sebum (the natural oil that protects our skin)
- Oats– high in amino acids, they’re a humectant, skin soothing, relieves itching and act as a moisturizer
- Argan Oil– it eases inflammation while moisturizing the skin
- Pro-vitamin B5 (Panthenol)– improves and increases the moisture-retention capacity of the skin
- Pumpkin (Fruit/Seed Oil)– loaded over a 100 beneficial nutrients, and is a natural source of antioxidants and helps skin retain moisture
- Rosehip Seed Oil– helps make the skin feel softer and smoother, reduce roughness, cracking and irritation
- Shea Butter– renowned for is skin softening and moisture retaining ability
- Cranberry Fruit Extract– packed with nutrients and natural antioxidants that are a superb emollient
- Goat’s Milk (Lactose)– packed with proteins, beneficial fats, vitamins, amino acids, and calcium
- Hemp Oil– has a remarkable fatty acid profile and is a wonderful oil for dry or mature skin since it is said to help stimulate cell growth
- Honey- full of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and enzymes and is a rich emollient
Different Seasons, Different Routine
Since your skin is affected by seasonal changes, it’s good to change up your routine. Thankfully a natural skin care regimen doesn’t have to be complicated. Who would want that? Between balancing busy schedules and dwindling daylight, the last thing you want to do is deal with a complicated cleansing, toning and moisturizing routine.
Experts recommend a few changes, and we’ve got solutions. We’ve included suggestions for your face, body, lips and feet. Let’s jump right into those.
Tip 1- Reduce the amount of exfoliation. Think more about chemical, not manual exfoliants. The frequency which you may need to exfoliate can differ as well, depending on your skin type. It is, however, still important to exfoliate, as your skin continues to regenerate about every 27 days. Sloughing off those dead skin cells can brighten your complexion.
Can’t get enough pumpkin? (We can’t.) Try our Pumpkin Facial Fruit Enzyme Peel. It’s the most difference-making, immediate-results-having, my skin is so smooth, facial mask. Pumpkin, Bilberry, and Cranberry team up with an array of warm spices and skin-loving ingredients to create an amazing superfood for your skin. This fruit enzyme peel is full of natural exfoliants for smoothing and resurfacing.
Want to feel like royalty? Try our Rosewater Glycolic Masque. When you want to rejuvenate your inner beauty, our Rosewater Glycolic Acid goes to work. The gentle, but effective exfoliating action eliminates dull, dead skin cells and leaves you with a radiant glow.
Tip 2- Amp up the antioxidants. “The skin antioxidants can literally be depleted by all of the summer environmental exposure,” remarks Ava Shamban, M.D.(1) Antioxidants are an important part of skin care because they protect your skin from the damaging effects of free radicals. Antioxidants that are particularly good for your skin include Vitamins A, C, and E (tocopherols), lycopene, Resveratrol and Proanthocyanidins. Many of our products are naturally loaded with antioxidants.
Want to make your cleansing process more efficient? Reach for our Honey Loofah Bar Soap. Infused with Honeysuckle and a built-in natural loofah, this soap is packed with antioxidants and skin-loving ingredients that will leave you glowing. And who doesn’t love the sweet smell of honeysuckle blended with the richness of honey? Bonus: you’ll be scrubbing off that dead skin that plagues your arms and legs during the dry season.
Need a facial cleanser that doesn’t dry you out? We’re sure you’ll love both our Rosewater Creamy Cleanser and our Goat’s Milk Cleansing Milk. Each one of these natural facial cleansers are loaded with antioxidants to nourish and protect your skin. While both are gentle and effective, our Goat’s Milk Cleansing Milk is made for those with extra-sensitive skin. Those with mature skin will love the anti-aging effects of our Rosewater Creamy Cleanser.
Want a one-and-done skin care solution? You’ll never love another once you’ve tried our All Things Facial Oil. This miraculous oil really is “all-things” – It’s a make-up remover, a cleanser, a moisturizer, and an anti-aging serum all-in-one bottle! Loaded with antioxidants, anti-inflammatory, and anti-aging ingredients, this serum goes to work on your skin immediately. It cleanses, moisturizes, and protects one of your biggest assets in the simplicity of one step.
Tip 3- Don’t forget about your feet. It seems sandal season is the only time our feet get the attention they deserve. But let us tell you: there’s nothing like a spa treatment for your feet when the weather gets cold! Picture this: fireside foot rub, your favorite Netflix guilty pleasure, and a warm beverage to soothe your soul. Better yet– find your version of this happy thought and grab some of our KIND to your feet favorites.
Need relief for those tired feet? We recommend our Buttermint Foot Spa. Like a professional pedi in a jar, our Buttermint Foot Spa is pure luxury for your tired feet! The aroma is sweet, with a cool, minty finish that is both soothing and invigorating. Perfectly blended oils deliver moisture to even the most cracked, over-tired tootsies.
Want a sweet treat for your feet? Look no further than our Cocoa Mint Foot Creme. But be warned– this stuff is addictive! We seriously considered re-labeling our Cocoa Mint Foot Creme as “The Most Delicious Thing You’ve Ever Put on Your Feet”… But that didn’t really fit on the label. Super-thick & luxurious, this creme moisturizes and soothes even the most achy and dry feet.
